Hi everyone! I’m feeling a bit better so I reckon it’s time to get back to regular posting. And what would be better than starting off with some wisdomous thoughts and ponderings. This week I’m writing about something that I struggle with so man do I hope that actually putting it out there will serve as a reminder for me to keep going.
If you have set yourself a goal or goals – I’m talking long term ones like changing your lifestyle or eating habits, learning something new, completing a DIY or craft project – don’t give up if you have a setback. If it was all easy going then everyone would be achieving their dreams daily. It isn’t that simple though. It can be hard to keep going and yes you will likely have to push yourself (or drag yourself through it kicking and screaming if you’re anything like me) and yes, you may have days where it seems it’d be a great idea to give up. Then I’d say take a step back, take a few deep breaths (actual or metaphorical) and look at it again. If it’s truly something you want to do then keep going.
For example, if it’s committing to getting fitter then don’t give up on it after you miss a workout. So you missed out on one – you won’t see a long term difference of that but you will see long term results if you get back to it. Are you changing your eating habits? So you had a pizza one night – again, long term one pizza won’t make any difference if you keep going and commit to the change you want to make. Are you working on a DIY project? Don’t worry if you don’t work on it one night, don’t beat yourself up about it. You will continue the next day and will finish it.
I guess what I’m trying to say is – one small setback isn’t going to make a difference in the long term, but moving forward and continuing towards your goal will make one heck of a difference.
That’s one of the things that keeps me writing actually. I do my absolute best not to be too hard on myself if I miss a blog day and I think I’m getting better at it. It makes it a lot more enjoyable to write if I know that I don’t need to be mean to myself for missing a day. It might sound daft to you and if it does then I’m genuinely happy for you for being amazing at humaning. I hope to get there one day as well.
