Hi everyone! I was going to post a Wednesday Wisdom about clearing your surroundings for a clearer mind and more relaxed holidays, but then I came to my senses and realised that nobody’s going to have time or energy for that now. So I’ll save this one for the new year. Instead I’d like to quickly talk about embracing changes.
This came to me as I was talking to my sister after dying my (relatively) newly short hair pink a few weeks ago. I used to have really long hair and dye it all kinds of fun colours some years back, but since I’ve had ‘regular’ coloured (and still long) hair for quite a long time, the short pink hairdo kept catching me by surprise every time I saw my reflection. And I liked it. So much so that once the pink had washed out, I dyed my hair silver. It was some time between the pink and silver that I was hit over the head with an epiphany – I’d held on to my long hair for soooooo long, enduring the horrid pain that came with it (my hair’s really thick and heavy so having it up or restrained in any way gave me dreadful headaches, but having it down made it wildly untameable), being too scared to cut it off. And now that I finally went for it, I’d say my hindsight is 20:20 and I can see I was an idiot not chopping it off sooner! Ok, maybe idiot is a bit too strong, but oh my wow what a relief it was to be rid of it. I don’t dread washing my hair anymore, I don’t need to worry about how to style it and it’s just so low maintenance. Love it! If to put it even more heroically – I felt the fear and did it anyway.
If you’ve done something in a certain way for a very long time, it can be really scary to let go of it and change it. Sure, at times the grass will be greener in the past, but how will you know if you don’t give it a go?
Also, … wait, I lost it. What was I going to say? Oh, yes, I remember. I don’t really believe in New Year’s resolutions, that’s why I wrote about embracing changes today. If you want to make a change, why not do it sooner rather than later?
Let me know if you have something that you’re going to change or something new you’d like to go for 🙂
