Crafts

I made this!

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well and good, wherever you are, whatever you’re doing. I’ve got to go to work in a couple of hours but I wanted to share something with you before I go.

A few days ago I finished a craft project I’d been working on for a while now. If you don’t know me all that well, you may not know that I’m an avid hooker. You know, crocheter. I love crocheting in every shape and form.

So, some time ago I was on the hunt for my next project and came across this pattern here from Red Heart, designed by Kristi Simpson. You could say I was intrigued (or, you know, hooked) and decided to give it a go.

I started off by picking my colours. I decided to go for nice and bright spring pastels. So far so good.

Then I ran into my first problem. I couldn’t find the right sized hook. I don’t know why I’ve only got one of them when it’s one of the ones I use the most. And therefore misplace the most. In any case I ended up using a slightly larger one.

Here’s the finished bottom of the bag. Slightly looser stitches than I would’ve ideally liked but that’s what I get for using the wrong sized hook.

In any case I made my peace with it and simply thought of my bag as ‘airy’.

I got to start a new colour!

And another one!

Then, out of the blue, the main part of my airy backpack was done. I was quite impressed as it actually looked like a real bag.

I mean, look! I could put stuff in it! Well and truly amazed.

However, that’s where things started to slow down for me as that’s where the more intricate parts began.

I had to make a pocket and straps which in themselves were very straightforward. It’s the attaching them to the main bag that I couldn’t bring myself to do for the longest time. I had the parts all ready to go, waiting patiently. And then there was me. Refusing to sew a few stitches. Until one night when for whatever reason I couldn’t sleep…

My airy backpack.

I was tossing and turning, trying my hardest to drift off to dreamland but it was not happening. So I got up, picked up my bag and… Got. It. Done. Slept like a log afterwards.

I now have a backpack made by me. Still can’t believe I made this. But I did!

Any ideas for my next crochet project? All suggestions welcome so fire away 🙂
