Hi everyone! Hope you’ve had a good however long it’s been since I last saw you. Seriously. Happy thoughts and feelings all around. Right? Right?! RIGHT?!! Uh, too in your face aggressive? I’ll work on that. Anyway… Where was I? Ah, yes.
A short while ago I had one of those ‘who, me?’ moments when I was approached by the lovely Secret Scent Box people who asked if I’d like to review one of their boxes. Having been curious about them for a long time now (I’ve subscribed to most beauty boxes out there, it was only a matter of time before I expanded my interests) I of course agreed.
For those of you not familiar with them here’s a quick overview – Secret Scent Box is a monthly subscription box supplying you with 30 days worth (3x3ml vials) of perfume or aftershave (depending on whether you go for Men’s or Women’s box) with prices starting from £13.
Secret Scent Box
POLICE Passion Woman – (For the passionate woman urban styled and full of vitality. This exciting floral fragrance delights with its fruity and edible accords. Top notes: Bergamot, Orange, Cassis, Apple. Middle notes: Lotus, Hawthorn, Freesia, Sunflower. Base notes: Sandalwood, Musk, Cedar, Tonka Bean.) This was my favourite out of the three I received. It is beautifully floral, quite sweet and long lasting. Absolutely perfect for the summer!
HUGO BOSS The Scent Private Accord – (This new scent by Hugo Boss was created by perfumer Louise Turner. It’s an irresistible Eau de Parfume that seduces the senses. Top notes: Mandarin. Middle notes: Osmanthus. Base notes: Dark Cocoa, Roasted Tonka.) This is the one I thought I’d love the most, but the other two ended up surprising me so pleasantly that this one had to take the third place. It is a very strong perfume that builds and evolves, smelling a bit different every time I caught a sniff of it. I’m not sure which part of it was that didn’t do it for me, but I felt a bit overwhelmed by it overall.
TOMMY HILFIGER Eau de Prep – (Eau de Prep Tommy Girl is a girl’s perfect companion, regardless of whether she is on the tennis court or in ballroom. Top notes: Pink Peppercorn, Green Apple, Violet Leaves. Middle notes: White Rose. Base notes: Sandalwood, Hawthorn, Musk.) This was a lovely light and fruity perfume, making me feel fresh and ready for the day. It had moderate longevity, but possible to extend the wear by spraying it on clothes rather than directly on skin. I liked it a lot!
It’s funny that I thought I’d love the Hugo Boss, like the Police and be not so keen on the Tommy Hilfiger. Just goes to show how important it is to try perfumes for an extended period of time before buying one.
I have a feeling the Secret Scent Box may have got a new subscriber in me. I love my perfumes and I love samples. A match made in some perfumers laboratory, I’m sure.
But I do feel like I have to go sniff at some coffee beans now after smelling all these scents up close and personal whilst writing this post. Too much a good thing, you know.
I’ll see you later!
